The hidden amount slider

The hidden amount slider x 2

Learn how to reduce the effects of several sliders at once in any of Lightroom’s selective adjustment tools, the Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, and Radial Filter.

Let’s say you have added a graduated filter and changed several slider values, like in the example below.
You then realize that the effect is far too strong and you start to adjust each one of the sliders.
That takes a lot of time and there are other ways of working that are superior to this method.

Ok, we want to a way to fine-tune all current settings proportionately for ALL sliders – how is that done?

There are two ways of doing it:

  1. Click the little black “expose triangle” in the top right corner in the graduated filter panel.
The panel now changes to one single slider called Amount.

Now move this slider up or down to increase or decrease the total effect.
Notice how all sliders move at once and proportionately.

  2. This is one that I recently discovered and can’t quite believe how much time it’s already saved me.

Hover your mouse pointer over the graduated filter adjustment pin and the pointer turns into a hand.

Hold the Alt/Option key and the pointer turns into a “Scrubby slider”. Left-click whilst moving this slider left or right to increase or decrease the total effect.
And again, notice how all sliders move at once and proportionately.

These two amount options are essentially controlling opacity and add a whole new level of control to Lightroom. It may look like a small thing, but it makes a tremendous difference in editing and makes your changes even more powerful. You can now quickly fine-tune your local tool adjustments.

Also, remember that the option works with the radial filter and brush tool.
